Jaguar Type 01 Revealed: Does the Car Live Up to the Rebrand?

Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, its new all-electric four-door grand tourer, at a New York premiere on 6 October 2026. Following months of anticipation and debate around the brand’s reinvention, there is finally a production car to discuss.

And there is plenty to discuss.

The long bonnet, low roofline and imposing proportions make this a significant departure from the Jaguars many drivers know. For some, it will be a welcome change of direction. For others, it will take some getting used to. Either way, Jaguar has given the conversation something more substantial than a new logo.

From the Jaguar rebrand to a production car

Jaguar’s 2024 rebrand divided opinion before its next generation of cars had even arrived. The new identity and “Copy Nothing” campaign raised a straightforward question: what would this new Jaguar actually look like on the road?

The Type 00 concept, unveiled in December 2024, offered the first indication. Its sculptural bodywork and distinctive colours made the intended change of direction clear.

The Type 01 now takes that idea into a four-door production model. The distinction matters: Type 00 was a design concept; Type 01 is the car Jaguar plans to bring to customers.

That shifts the debate. A campaign can generate attention, but a luxury car ultimately needs to earn its place through its design, quality and driving experience.

A design that will divide opinion

The Type 01’s proportions are its strongest talking point. Its extended bonnet and low silhouette give it a presence that feels deliberately different from the familiar shape of an electric SUV.

It also retains an unconventional detail: there is no rear window, with a camera-based rear-view system taking its place.

Whether that looks forward-thinking or feels like a step too far will come down to personal taste. The same applies to the wider design. Buyers who want something discreet may look elsewhere; those who value a car with a clear visual identity may see the appeal immediately.

Our view at Approved Motor Finance is that the design deserves to be judged as a complete car. Photographs can start the discussion, but seeing it in person and experiencing it from behind the wheel will be more revealing.

What do we know about the Jaguar Type 01?

Jaguar has confirmed the following headline details:

  • Body style: all-electric luxury four-door GT.

  • Platform: dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA.

  • Power: more than 1,000PS.

  • Claimed range: 400 miles under the US EPA measure.

  • Charging: Jaguar states that 350kW charging can add 200 miles of range in 13 minutes.

  • Orders: expected to open in early 2027.

  • First deliveries: expected in the second half of 2027.

The range figure uses the US EPA measure and should not be presented as a UK WLTP figure. Actual range and charging performance will depend on conditions.

For UK buyers, final local pricing and specifications will be important parts of the picture as the launch approaches.

Will attention translate into demand?

The reveal gives Jaguar an opportunity to move the conversation towards the product itself. It also raises expectations.

At this end of the market, distinctive styling can be part of the attraction. Buyers often want a car that reflects their taste, rather than one that simply meets a practical brief. But presence alone is unlikely to settle the decision.

Comfort, usability, the ownership experience and how the car compares with other luxury models will all matter. For anyone considering a future purchase, residual values will also be a question to assess as more market evidence becomes available.

It is too early to call the Type 01 a success. It is equally early to dismiss it because it challenges expectations of what a Jaguar should look like.
