BUYING A LAMBORGHINI?

Current Market

Peak Performance

Lamborghini differentiates itself from other manufacturers by adopting a focused approach, concentrating on a select product range. However, they amplify its potential through the ingenious collaboration of their designers, engineers, and marketing specialists. Within the realm of spirited discussions surrounding Lamborghini's offerings, the spotlight falls on the remarkable Lamborghini Revuelto, alongside the Aventador and Huracán. All three models are available in both Coupe and Roadster variations, boasting high-performance versions and exclusive limited editions. Furthermore, Lamborghini remains committed to crafting extraordinary bespoke vehicles tailored to the discerning tastes of affluent collectors.

Leading the pack is the groundbreaking Lamborghini Revuelto, armed with a commanding 6.5-liter V12 engine that unleashes an awe-inspiring 780PS. This immense power is seamlessly transferred to the road through an advanced all-wheel-drive system, while the vehicle's performance is further elevated by state-of-the-art active aerodynamics.

Conversely, the Lamborghini Huracán, which underwent a remarkable transformation in 2019 as the 'Evo,' has garnered immense acclaim as one of the most exceptional supercars on the market. Presently, the Revuelto stands tall as the epitome of Lamborghini's automotive prowess, captivating the hearts of countless enthusiasts. Boasting a remarkable top speed of 220mph and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in a mere 2.8 seconds, it undoubtedly reigns as the fastest mainstream Lamborghini, excluding exclusive limited edition models.

The Urus, Lamborghini's first SUV since the iconic LM002, is a more recent addition to their lineup. While the LM002 was renowned for its rugged appearance and V12 engine, the new Urus presents an entirely different proposition. Combining striking aesthetics, exquisite interior finishes, and unmatched agility for an SUV, the Urus is the ideal choice for those who desire both speed and the practicality of accommodating their family on every adventure. In this regard, the Urus could be considered the finest Lamborghini available today.

Are Lamborghinis a good investment?

The current market reflects high values for older Lamborghinis, and while classics like the Miura and Countach will always remain in demand, it is plausible to anticipate a potential decline in values for the rest of the range if interest rates rise significantly. However, it is unlikely that supply will surpass demand, and investing in the right collectible Lamborghini can prove to be a prudent financial decision. It is important to note that investing in used supercars, regardless of the specific model, is a long-term commitment rather than a quick profit opportunity.

Over time, limited edition and performance-oriented models such as the Gallardo Superleggera, as well as the Diablos, have taken a while to be appreciated for their true value. These models are now being recognized by knowledgeable enthusiasts as some of the remarkable supercars from the golden age of automotive craftsmanship.

How much to spend?

Benefiting from their scarcity and desirability, Aventadors and Huracans have retained their value remarkably well. In fact, certain models of the Murcielago, such as a low mileage SV, may now be worth more than their original price. These days, the entry point into owning a Lamborghini is typically in the range of £65,000 to £110,000 for a Gallardo, which is considered quite a bargain.

On the higher end of the classic car spectrum, a Miura P400 commands a hefty price tag of around one million pounds, while the highly sought-after SV variant fetches roughly twice that amount. As the offspring of the 1980s reach adulthood, the revered Countach has established its worth, surpassing the £300,000 mark for a decent example. The incredibly rare LP400 Periscopio variant, on the other hand, demands three times that sum. In the realm of Lamborghini classics, the 1990s Diablo is also gaining recognition, with prices for this iconic supercar starting at £180,000.

Finance options

The best way to finance a Lamborghini

There are several financing options available to help you acquire a new or pre-owned Lamborghini.

One such option is hire purchase, which allows you to make monthly payments towards the car and provides the opportunity to buy the vehicle outright at the end of a fixed-term contract.

Next there is Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) which allows you to keep, exchange or return the vehicle at the end of the agreement. This product is the most flexible form of car finance.

Once obtained, refinance is always an option. Refinance is a form of equity release that unlocks cash from your vehicle. The released funds can be used for whatever purpose you wish.

Things to consider:

1. CAN YOU AFFORD IT?

Lamborghini ownership is a significant investment, especially considering the price of an Aventador SVJ surpassing £350,000 at the list price. However, it is feasible to find a pre-owned vehicle at a lower cost, although supercars of this caliber tend to change hands frequently without experiencing substantial depreciation during the initial years. The classic car market is even less forgiving, as prices remain high and continue to rise in certain areas. Bargain opportunities are scarce nowadays, and it is possible that prices may stabilize or even decline in the coming years.

2. MAINTENANCE/INSURANCE/ADDITIONAL COSTS

Insurance and maintenance costs for a modern Lamborghini will always be substantial, including expenses for consumables like fuel, tires, and brake pads. However, the overall expenditure in this regard can be comparable to other high-performance cars, depending on your driving habits. Since Lamborghini started utilizing components from its parent company, Volkswagen, the brand's reliability has significantly improved, and service intervals have become more reasonable.

When it comes to classic Lamborghinis, their engines, despite being intricate and requiring specialized attention, are surprisingly resilient considering their high-performance nature and Italian heritage. However, it's important to note that parts for these vehicles can be expensive, and the specialized labor involved will inevitably come at a cost.

3.WHAT TO LOOK FOR

It is crucial to conduct thorough research when it comes to accident damage in the realm of modern Lamborghinis, especially since these supercars often attract younger and less experienced drivers. If a deal appears excessively inexpensive, it is likely to have a significant underlying reason for the low price.

Additionally, any high-performance vehicle should possess a comprehensive service history from either an authorized main dealer or an approved specialist. Neglecting proper maintenance for a significant period could result in substantial costs to rectify the issues later on.

BEST BUYS

Lamborghini Revuelto

Hybrid Super Sports Car

Lamborghini introduced Revuelto, the inaugural HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle) hybrid super sports car, just ahead of its 60th anniversary. With Revuelto, Lamborghini has set a fresh standard for performance, cutting-edge onboard technology, and an exhilarating driving experience. The Revuelto's exceptional thrill stems from its powertrain, which merges the potency of a state-of-the-art 12-cylinder internal combustion engine with three high-density electric motors and an innovative transversal dual clutch e-gearbox, resulting in a total power output of 1015 CV.

Lamborghini Urus

Lamborghini SUV

In the past, if you were in search of the most practical Lamborghini, the V12-powered Lamborghini LM002 off-roader would have been the primary option. While it could accommodate a few passengers and conquer steep gradients, it wasn't exactly suitable for everyday tasks like the school run. However, everything changed in 2018 when the Urus made its debut as the first Lamborghini SUV, or rather, Super Sport Utility Vehicle, as the manufacturer prefers to call it. Introducing new standards of design, performance, and handling to the segment, the Urus may have deviated from traditional Lamborghini enthusiasts' expectations with its twin-turbo V8 engine. Nevertheless, it attracted a significant number of new customers and has become the best-selling Lamborghini model by a considerable margin, showcasing the evolving preferences of Lamborghini enthusiast.
